12 Days of Ditch & Switch: Laundry Room

DAY 1: Laundry Room

Welcome to the first day of our 12 Days of Ditch & Switch series! Let’s start in the laundry room, one of THE MOST toxic rooms in the house!

Don’t believe me? Go look up your laundry detergent on EWG.org!

Now let’s think about it. Approximately how much time each day do you spend wearing clothes, sleeping in sheets, wrapped in a towel, or touching some sort of fabric that wash washed in your laundry room? UM 100%!

Now let’s look at the labels on our laundry room shelves. Most laundry detergents actually have what are called “optical brighteners,” which are tiny particles that are meant to stick in the fibers of your clothes and reflect light back at your eyes. This tricks your brain into thinking your clothes are brighter, and therefore cleaner, but NOPE! Don’t fall for it!

These toxins stay in our clothes and in the air and wreak havoc on our bodies, especially our endocrine systems! Synthetics fragrances and chemicals mimic hormones in the body, confusing your endocrine system and destablillzing our body and our mood!

One of THE most toxic products in the home are your dryer sheets, throw them out! Ditch dryer sheets and switch to wool dryer balls. Ditch your laundry detergant and switch to Thieves Laundry Soap. Instead of a stain stick or stain spray, use Thieves Bar Soap! Just rub it into the stain and throw your garment in the wash!

Three easy switches and your laundry routine is practically toxin-free! Plus, you’ll be surprised at how long this laundry soap lasts you!
