Revamp your Laundry Routine

Did you know that your laundry products can affect your allergies, asthma, skin, and indoor air quality? Our laundry room is full of hidden toxic chemicals BUT it is easy to ditch and switch the products in our laundry routine for better versions! This class will teach you how to easily and inexpensively make switches to create a toxin-free laundry routine you’ll love!

I am so excited to break down all the different hidden toxins in your laundry room and give you easy and cheap switches!

We are almost never not in contact with the chemicals in our laundry soap. We are always either wearing clothes, sleeping in sheets, wrapped in a towel, etc. Because of this, we want to make sure that the chemicals in our laundry detergent are SAFE! Most traditional laundry detergents are full of endocrine disruptors (think: hormone disrupting), carcinogens, and respiratory irritants.

Take a second and search your current laundry brand on the EWG Database (https://www.ewg.org/guides/cleaners). How does it score? Post a screenshot below! I used to use Tide Free and Clear detergent and I remember being shocked seeing how poorly it was rated (it gets an F!)! You guys. “Free and Clear” does NOT mean safe!

Young Living makes it SO easy to ditch and switch our laundry routine with its Thieves line! Stick around and we will talk about alternatives for every part of your laundry room!

With a plant-based formula, Thieves Laundry Soap gently and naturally washes your clothes, cleaning them without any chemical or synthetic residue. Natural enzymes and powerful essential oils add to the formula’s strength to leave your clothes fresh and clean with a light citrus scent.Thieves Laundry Soap can be used in all washers, including high-efficiency!I find that I only have to use half of the recommended amount, giving me about 128 loads per bottle! BUT, the Thieves products are so concentrated and effective that you can also DILUTE your laundry soap to save more! Get 32oz pump bottles from Amazon and do the following:

  • Separate your laundry soap equally into the three pump bottles (about 10oz each)
  • Add 2 capfuls of Thieves Houshold Cleaner Concentrate to each bottle
  • Add about 50 drops of essential oil to each bottle (my favorite is Purification)
  • Fill (slowly) with water, gently shake under mixed well
  • Use 2 pumps per large load

That’s $7.80 per bottle – ~64 loads each. Can’t beat it!!

Stain removers are easy to make and there are so many options with Young Living! Here are a few of my favorite things to use/make to treat stains!

+ THIEVES CLEANER– Just use your normal concentration of all-purpose cleaner to treat stains before throwing them into the wash!

+ THIEVES DISH SOAP– It is so good on grease and oil stains! Rub some into the fabric and then throw it into the wash!

+ THIEVES BAR SOAP– Easy “stain stick” already made from Young Living! Just get the bar soap wet, rub on top of a stain, and then wash!

+ DIY STAIN STICK– Fill a 1oz roller bottle with ½ Thieves Household Cleaner Concentrate and ½ Thieves Dish Soap. Roll over stains and allow to sit, rinse with water, and pop in the washer as normal!

Dryer sheets are one of the MOST toxic things in your home (https://purelivingspace.com/…/why-you-should-avoid-toxic-dr…). If you haven’t ditched them yet, DO IT NOW! There are a couple great options to replace them.

+ WOOL DRYER BALLS– Grab wool dryer balls and add your essential oils to them to leave your clothes smelling fresh. Wool dryer balls will cut down on drying time and help reduce static too!

+ SEEDLINGS BABY WIPES– These leave your laundry smelling so good! Throw one wipe in the dryer with your clothes!

Protip: If you are struggling with static, try cutting your drying time down! If your clothes still have a little bit of moisture when you stop and fold them, they won’t have any static!

Fabric softeners are truly unnecessary in your laundry routine and they are so so toxic too! “In-wash fabric softeners and heat-activated dryer sheets pack a powerful combination of chemicals that can harm your health, damage the environment and pollute the air, both inside and outside your home.” (EWG).BUT, if you find yourself missing your fabric softener, you can try DIYing your own!

  • 1 cup distilled water
  • ½ cup white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Young Living hair conditioner
  • 20 drops of your favorite essential oil

Mix well and pour ⅛-¼ cup into fabric softener dispenser.

This scent booster is easy to make and I love adding it to my laundry in the wash!

+ 1.5 cups Epsom Salts

+ .5 cup Baking Soda

+ 20-30 drops Essential Oils

Just shake 2-3 tablespoons into the wash with your clothes!
My favorite scent combo is lavender, eucalyptus radiata, rosemary, and lemongrass! What oils will you use in yours?

This is one of my most requested recipes. I’m so excited to have one to share! It works so well at smoothing out all the wrinkles from my shirt!

In a 2oz spray bottle, add 1.5oz water, 1/2oz white vinegar, and 15 drops essential oils.

My favorite blend is rosemary, lavender, and lime!

Try this out! In a pitch, you can also use your all-purpose Thieves Household Cleaner!

The residue from your washing machine can slowly build up and lead to gunk that keeps your clothes from getting as clean as possible (especially when you change from toxic detergent). This is a great recipe from Young Living’s Lavender Life Blog (https://www.youngliving.com/blog/the-15-dirtiest-spots-in-your-house-and-how-to-make-them-sparkle/)!Help your washing machine do the best job it can by giving it a deep cleaning.

  1. Turn on your washing machine for the largest load size, with the hottest water setting and the longest wash.
  2. As the washer fills, add ½ quart of white vinegar and 1 cap of Thieves Household Cleaner.
  3. Let the washer fill for approximately 1 minute; then add ½ cup of baking soda.
  4. Open the lid and let it sit for 1 hour. While the water sits, spray all-purpose cleaner on the washing machine top and sides and wipe.
  5. After the water sits for 1 hour, let the machine run for the full cycle. Once the cycle finishes, run a short cycle to clean off any leftover residue.

I suggest you do this before switching to natural laundry soap so you can have a good fresh start!
